Some of my favorite work happens outside the studio, on walls that greet kids every single day. That’s the spirit behind my latest project: a two-door mural on the garage at Ziji Early Elementary School.

The design starts on the left with a patchwork sun, its rays pieced together like a quilt, warm and a little imperfect in the best way. From there, the scene flows across to the right door, where the sun gives way to a crescent moon surrounded by whimsical clouds and scattered stars.

Together, the two doors tell a small story of a full day, sunrise to starlight, painted right where the youngest students walk past every morning and afternoon. It was a joy to bring a little more color and wonder to their school.
